Avni Doshi, an award-winning author and art historian, was born in New Jersey and currently resides in Dubai. She holds a BA in Art History from Barnard College in New York and a Masters in the History of Art from University College, London.

Her debut novel, Burnt Sugar, initially released in India under the title Girl in White Cotton, won the 2021 Sushila Devi Award and was longlisted for the 2019 Tata First Novel Prize. Burnt Sugar was shortlisted for the 2020 Booker Prize and acclaimed as the 2020 Book of the Year by notable publications such as the Guardian, Economist, Spectator, and NPR. The novel is now available in 26 languages. In 2021, it was longlisted for the Woman’s Prize and recognized as one of the New York Times Book Reviews’ 100 Notable Books of the Year. In 2022, it was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award. Avni is currently working on her second book.
