Learning Series #7: Beyond the Spotlight: A Journey of Healing, Reinvention, and Purpose

Lisa Ray, an award-winning actor, author, cancer graduate, and Co-founder of a digital art platform, has embodied multiple worlds and identities long before the mainstream embraced the idea of multiplicity. A major celebrity figure from the age of 16 in pre-globalised India, Lisa, who was born in Canada and is half Bengali and half Polish, has pursued a path of seeking meaning and a sense of home beyond building a pioneering career in the performing arts. Passionate about issue-driven roles, Lisa has starred in acclaimed films such as the Oscar-nominated Water, as well as popular TV shows like Four More Shots Please!, Top Chef Canada, and Oh My Gold, and appeared in Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s iconic Afreen Afreen music video. Lisa was the first prominent Indian personality to break the taboo of speaking publicly about cancer when she announced her diagnosis from the red carpet in 2009. Today, at 52, she is a mother of 6-year-old twins, a proud pro-ager, currently working on her next book, and continues to embody her rebellious spirit. Lisa owns her narrative and inspires others to do the same through her public talks and keynote speaking engagements.
